  • Seasonal Advisory: Chasing in the Dark of Autumn

As the clocks change and the days shorten, our operators will find that the dot is harder to see and the sofa is harder to leave. We advise the following: maintain a lamp in the hallway, avoid mirrors and keep a light on near the cat flap.

The darker months also see an increase in movement behind the skirting board. Do not investigate it alone. Contact the Watch Officer, who will investigate it for you, at a safe distance, from a chair.

Finally, keep warm. A cold operator is a slow operator, and a slow operator is a nap waiting to happen.

  • Safety Bulletin: Do Not Stare at the Pointer

The Operations Safety Office reminds all operators that the Dot Engine produces a light of 5 milliwatts and should never be stared at directly. You may chase the dot. You may lose the dot. You may not look into the origin of the dot.

If you find yourself staring at the pointer, look away at once and focus on a wall, a bird or something of moderate interest. Any accidental exposure should be reported to your human, who will say sorry and then do it again.

Remember: the dot is a target. The pointer is a weapon. The human is a civilian.
